The youngest member of a family of geniuses who've all managed to distinguish themselves in their chosen field, Perfect Jones has chosen her own career as a costumed crimefighter. She has no powers, but has always able to master any skill she needs in a relatively short amount of time, possibly as a result of an undetected Darkwell trait. So far she has proven herself to be an accomplished martial artist (with perhaps a slight tendency to rely on groin shots) and gadgeteer. Her true aspiration is to become one of the great vigilante detectives, like Thoth, Reason, or the Dock Shadow.
For all her intelligence and dedication, she's still a young woman just on the verge of adulthood, and can be naive, even child-like at times. Her single-minded determination to be a crimefighter has cost her socially, and she collects stuffed bunnies to ease her loneliness.
Evelyn Everett has a repuation as being a ruthless businesswoman, if not a stone cold bitch, though it's obvious to her that everything she does is with the public's best interests at heart. She's also well-known for her animosity towards costumed crimefighters and superheroes, or at least her opinion that humanity shouldn't depend on them exclusively. How much of that is her real feelings and how much of is a smokescreen is open for debate to those who know her secret... when she's done wheeling and dealing, she dones a billowing cape and protects the city built by her forefathers as Storm Siren. Her powers include control of the wind and lightning manipulation. Her commanding presence and keen mind have made Storm Siren the de facto leader of the small, tight-knit Nebula City supercommunity... a group the local media have dubbed "Stormfront" in her honor.
Evelyn lives for her twelve year old daughter, Rain. When her cousin, the villainess Rhyme, targeted Rain with one of her schemes, Evelyn's response as Storm Siren was seen as so out of proportion that Rhyme was able to get a restraining order against her.
Originally hailing from the small town of Liddell, Minnesota, Allison currently makes her home in Crescent Bay, California. She makes a living as a commercial artist for an up-and-coming advertising/public relations firm, but she's equally passionate about using her powers to help others. Due to her upper midwestern upbringing, she's not comfortable asking for help, but she receives it anyway from her roommate and friend, Amphitrite.
Allison possesses a very broad psychokinetic power that allows her to manipulate matter and energy, as well as communicate telepathically through brainwave manipulation ("neural telepathy".) Her abilities seem to function more powerfully when used in brief bursts, but she's strong enough to fly by telekinetically lifting her body. Some aspects of her power are better developed than others, and she wears a costume with a special mesh lining that helps her better focus the psychic energies around her.
The west coast's premiere superteam was formed in the mid-80s just during the run-up to the Portal Wars when three brothers, separated as children, were re-united by fate along with several other allies. They make their home on Olympus Island, a disputed territory twenty-odd miles off the coast of California that was magically cloaked from before the Spaniards arrived in the New World until today. The Pantheon (as it is often known, for short) now exists in an uneasy truce with the United States government, sharing its unique resources in exchange for a considerable degree of freedom.
Though the Pantheon's members emulate and pay homage to the gods of old with their names, they do not claim to be them or encourage people to worship and pray to them... though they still get considerable flack from religious fundamentalists for their obvious pagan overtones.
The Webmistress runs a global network for the collection of useful information and interesting objects. What she doesn't know, she can find out... what she doesn't have, she can get. She lives like a queen, commanding the absolute loyalty of her army of thugs who are kept under her thrall through a mixture of intimidation, sex, drugs, and mental conditioning.
Ray Vallenzio was once an ordinary carnival performer, a professional fire-eater like his father before him. A thirst for vengeance against the criminals who scarred the woman he loved lead him to be magically branded and infused with elemental fire... but at a high price. Now he uses his abilities... which include regeneration, enhanced physical strength and prowess, and the ability to inhale or exhale fire at will... to try to do some good, while trying hard not to cause serious injury or damage with his flame.
If Ray has a weakness, it's women. He's done his best to wall off his heart after having it broken, but he was always a passionate man even without pure elemental flame fueling his emotions.
Identical twin daughters of the Grace the Amazon queen and the powerhouse hero Might. Athena Wisdom inherited their mother's power upon her death, as has always been the case for the royal family of the Amazons. Through some mystical quirk, Might's powers were caught up in the spell of transference and passed to Minerva. Even more astonishing, the twins later realized that because of their identical DNA, they could swap individual powers at will.
Today, the Wisdom Twins function as public superheroes while running an independent book store and coffee shop called the Owlery in Nebula City. The inhabitants have embraced them, perhaps in an attempt to make up for turning their backs on the heroes who defended their city a generation ago. Athena is patient and forgiving, but Minerva may very well hold some bitterness within her.
Some people aspire to the life of a superhero. Amphitrite Waters (her birth name) never had to. She's the daughter of Poseidon, one of the founding members of the Pantheon of Heroes, and is related through him to co-founders Zeus and Hades. This automatically elevates her to the level of the creme de la creme of the west coast superhuman scene. Coming from two powerful mutant parents and inheriting all of both of their powers (a comparitive rarity) means that she will eventually be among the most powerful superbeings on the planet. Amphitrite takes all of this in stride. She isn't exactly humble, but rather knows she has nothing to prove.
Her life's ambition is to be a world-famous chef. In order to make sure that she's getting credit for her talent and not her background or connections, she's moved out of Olympus Isle and created the identity of Amy Walters, human nobody, who has already become a sous-chef at the popular restaurant Valentine's. She lives with fellow mutant heroine Allison Powers, whose dual loyalties to heroism and art mirror Amphitrite's own.
Amphitrite has a playful sense of humor, but can also be a bit of a prude. She isn't naive in that regard... she's simply never had the time or the inclination for sex, and finds the topic somewhat distasteful.
