Written by The Mysterious Drifter

The city that became Star Harbor was initially founded in 1626. Three English ships, origianlly bound for the Jamestown colony, found themselves blown off course and put in for supplies. The first night in harbor, a brilliant shooting star rent the heavens... as well as the largest of the ships, which it struck.

All the surviving settlers were confident in their belief that the falling star had been a clear and incontrovertible sign from heavens, but as so often happens they were sharply divided as to what exactly the clear and incontrovertible sign had clearly and incontrovertibly said. One half of them believed that the Almighty was displeased with their presence in the New World, and they took the bigger of the remaining ships back to England.

The other half interpreted the destruction of the sailing vessel as a signal to stay and settle where they were, and they dismantled the last of the boats to provide timber for their first crude shelter. Predictably, a large number of the accidental colonists died in the first winter, but in an event that could only be described (from the starving survivors' point of view) as miraculous, another ship laden with supplies arrived late the following spring and a royal charter to establish a new colony for England.

This timely deliverance could not be attributed to the actions of those on board the ship that had turned back across the sea, for it never reached the land and its passengers were never heard from again.

In time, the colony which had originally been christened Salvation Point became better known by the name of its most famous feature, the Falling Star Harbor, and in 1801 the growing city's name was officially changed to the name by which it is known today.
